pays-sudThe “three As” (Latin America, Africa, Asia) include the majority of developing countries, emerging countries and LDC. While the issues at stake for each region vary enormously, the “three As” still face common challenges. The Amadeus Institute, a think tank of the South, aspires to identify these continents’ positions in our contemporary world.

Indeed, the rapid emergence of the “three As” has enabled them to play increasingly important economic and political roles on the international scene. A redefinition of the balance of power is undeniable and must be acknowledged by developed countries. The Amadeus Institute proposes an analysis of triangular cooperation: cooperation between the North and the South, but also among countries of the South. From now on, developed countries must rely on developing nations to fuel their economic growth. At the same time, the South must be responsible for its own development, with emerging countries assisting economically weak or political unstable nations also. Sharing of knowledge and experience is necessary among the “three As” in order to capitalize on complementarities and promote development.

Encouraging regional integration is a crucial issue for the Institute. These regional and sub-regional blocks constitute a basis for the improvement of peace and prosperity in the South. The Institute proposes analyses and concrete recommendations to overcome possible obstacles. North-South-South cooperation is the conceptual foundation of the MEDays Forum.
