Écrivain marocain et économiste vivant à Amsterdam, où il enseigne successivement l’économétrie, l’anglais, les sciences de l’environnement et la littérature francophone depuis 1989. Il est l’auteur de plusieurs œuvres, notamment Tu n’as rien compris à Hassan II (Juliard, 2004), Méfiez-vous des parachutistes (Juliard, 1999), De quel amour blessé (Juliard, 1998). Fouad Laroui est également chroniqueur litteraire à Jeune Afrique, Economia et la radio Medi 1.

Dr. Werenfels is known as one of the foremost experts on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation within Germany. She currently works as a Senior Associate for the “Stiftung für Politische Wissenschaft” (SWP), the most influential German foreign policy think tank, headquartered in Berlin, Germany.
As President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel are reviewing options for reviving the EU’s Mediterranean policy within the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Dr. Werenfels sheds light for us on how Germany and German people perceive their interest in the Mediterranean.

Saïd Mouline, director of the new Moroccan agency of development for renewable energies and energy efficiency (ADEREE), comes back to the development of Morocco’s own energy. Despite the Kingdom knowing a resort of national solar power and the launching of wind parks, a passion for renewable energies is made to feel the part of several actors including the State and investors. Further more he will tell us the goals and restraints of the national programme on the efficiency of energy in different sectors that can provide a true upset to the consumption of energy by Moroccans.

Shortly after being reelected as a judge on the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, Dr. Fatsah Ouguergouz granted the Amadeus Institute’s Analysis and Publications Center an exclusive interview. During the interview, Dr. Ouguergouz shed light on the system for human rights protection within the African Union, which has changed dramatically over the past several years. In this interview, Dr. Ouguergouz explains the court’s jurisdiction and how it functions, along with its limitations. The interview goes on to examine, in-depth, the manner in which human rights are protected in Africa, along with the numerous institutions involved. Ultimately, the interview with Dr. Ouguergouz puts into perspective the practices of the African Court in comparison to American and European human rights courts.

The cost of a non-unified Maghreb
Francis Ghilès, a recognized expert on energy issues, gave us his take on economic integration in the Maghreb a few weeks before the launch of the new trans-Mediterranean pipeline, Medgaz. In the interview, he highlighted the exact historical circumstances surrounding the creation of the Pedro Durran Farrel pipeline. Ghilès stressed the importance of the past in any true understanding of current energy perspectives in the Maghreb.
